Friday: Went to the boy’s for some Olympics watching and furious sewing. Stabbed my fingers many times. Cursed a lot. I finished everything I could do by hand while listening to the NBC commentators’ nauseatingly condescending commentary on the opening ceremonies, including poking fun at nations’ tribal clothing, pointing out which nations have never won medals, etc. I curled up on Jason and fell asleep well before the torch was even lit. Also: Sarah Brightman? Was that really necessary?

Saturday: I got the bra done and it looked awesome. I could not have done it without [livejournal.com profile] marinatempest’s help—she rocked with helping me to attach the sides. We ran our set twice and then proceeded to get all jingly and sparkly. Among the attendees: [livejournal.com profile] tamnonlinear, [livejournal.com profile] deliriouscat (who also danced), [livejournal.com profile] gsh, [livejournal.com profile] samurailuci, [livejournal.com profile] aggiebell, Bridget, Julie & her hubs, and a ton of our bellydance friends. I have many thoughts on how to improve the show for the next year, which I plan on sending to the organizers, but I will say that one of the things we were a bit worried about was not having a clear dance path and capturing the audience’s attention—this proved unfounded as our cheering section totally drowned out the talkers. The set went mostly smoothly, with only a few minor missteps, most of which were probably noticeable only to [livejournal.com profile] marinatempest & I, and some of the bellydancers in the crowd. The whole three-song set was 100% improv, and the best compliment I got that evening came from Julie & her husband, who had completely not realized that and said that it looked so smooth they’d assumed it was choreographed. We got a lot of good compliments and good energy; I was extremely grateful for the portion of the crowd that was very appreciative and warm. We didn’t quite make it all the way to the end, as I was starting to get a searing headache, but I did stay long enough to see Naimah totally bring down the house. Seriously, everyone shut up and watched, jaws all aslack. And also many hugs to [livejournal.com profile] damejenn, [livejournal.com profile] lapinetrose and their two troupe-mates for a very nice first performance!

Sunday: I’d planned to stay in bed—and I did, until about noon. As it turned out, the "family party" for Jason’s dad turned out to be on Sunday, and 60 is a big birthday. So I hung out with his family and we ate a ton of crabs. Afterwards, we watched Be Kind, Rewind, Michael Gondry’s love letter to the indie filmmaking community. And I couldn’t stop thinking about [livejournal.com profile] belladonnastrap. Went to bed at a reasonable hour (read: 12:30), and had crazy dreams about Jurassic Park 4 wherein I was Ellie Sattler and went back to Isla Nublar to see how things had evolved. The T Rex was extinct, the Stegasauruses had gotten huge and almost metal-y looking, and the raptors had started breeding like crazy, getting vicious enough in packs to take down the Brontosauruses. Somewhere in the dream, mercenaries managed to steal 6 velociraptors for testing in New York; they inevitably escaped and wreaked havoc on Manhattan. They almost ate me in the Met’s bathroom, but I shot a few and got away. In the end, they made it to the water and adapted there, becoming water predators and eating sharks. At the end of the dream, they were considered more dangerous than Great Whites, were multiplying quickly, and the beaches were being quarantined. Freaky.

Today: Back at work. Gonna be a busy day, and at the end of it, I get Anna hangout time!

Today is four months from the day Jason and I shared our first kiss. I continue to be amazed at his wonderful sweetness, thoughtfulness, and generosity. He is one of the most amazing men I have ever had the privilege to know, and I am so grateful for his presence in my life. I am so blessed.
