I will be starting serious work on my first novel in the next two weeks.

It's working title is The Glimmering, and it's a Young Adult novel based on the tale of Tam Lin. You got some morally gray faeries, a heroine, and a hero-type who has been locked away in a timeless alternate world/ faerie wood for many years.

I want to create a small filter of willing eyes for critique and overall reaction. The feedback thing is kind of critical to me. I'll be asking questions about characters and plot as well as writing quality.

If you're willing to lend me your eyes, please comment. The first draft of the opening chapter will be posted about a week after I return to campus, somewhere in the second week of June.

You up for it?

Yo, I'm up for it if you like. Though be aware, my criticism is often better when I can actually snark at crap stuff. I can weed out bad stuff and complain about it, but I'm not so hot at saying why stuff is good. ;)

That's cool. I can take a healthy dose of snark.

Seeing as how I was graced to see the beginning fruits of your labor on this story you can count me in.

I'd be interested. Sign me up.

Also, have you read The Perilous Guard (http://goblinhead.com/booklist/books_heather/001060.html)? It's also loosely based on Tam Lin and pretty good.

Oh, excellent--I remember you talking about this earlier, but wasn't sure if you'd abandoned this or not. I'm so glad that you're still doing it! The Tam Lin ballad has always been one of my favorites--I think it's the fact that the hero is the female character, which you don't see often in those old ballads.

I'd love to be one of your readers, if the offer is still open.

I'm willing and able. And I'd like to help out. Dunno if I'm qualified, but I'm up for it! :)

I'd be happy to help, but it depends on how in depth you want your feedback. I can break it down paragraph by paragraph if it pleases you, but I'd probably best send that length of a critique in email...

Sure, you can friend me. It takes me awhile to friend back... especially since I'm about to go on a three week hiatus. ;) I hope I'm at least entertaining.

Oo. Very much up for it. I love your writing style, and the plot sounds fantastic. And I'm generally not too shy about constructive criticism, at least if I'm sure that someone really wants it.

*grins* I almost had a story started based on Tam Lin. Darn. I should go back to that someday...Tam still floats around my brain from time to time.

Tam: *smirks* Time to time? You don't notice nearly enough.

Hi there,

I'd be interested in reading your novel. I got here through Holly's LJ. I tend to be good at picking up syntax, context, grammar, etc. as well as word choices. I'm happy to comment on overall works/doesn't work why, but obviously that requires a bit of discussion on what you're trying to achieve in total and how various scenes fit into that. At any rate, let me know: [livejournal.com profile] tipgardner.
