Witchy Meme, Photoshoot.
Oct. 16th, 2011 01:40 pm9. What books on witchcraft or spirituality have most influenced you?
Probably Yasmine Galenorn's Embracing the Moon and Phyllis Curott's WitchCrafting. Embracing The Moon was one of the first books on Paganism I read, and the first I read that did not come from a Wiccan perspective. 16 years later, a lot of it is way too flowery and ceremonial for me, but the ideas on practical workings are still awesome, and I use it for ideas quite a lot. WitchCrafting helped me to pinpoint many of the things I strongly disagree with within Wiccan theology in a way that I could articulate. I had a lot of "yes, THAT" moments when reading it. I wish Phyllis was still writing craft books-- I was not a fan of the "memoir" type books, but WitchCrafting is excellent and I would love more in that vein. I have a lot of books on the (actual) history of Paganism, and I'm glad I read them because they dispelled a lot of the popular myths that many people like to tell about the history of Wiccans and Pagans, but when it comes to practical application and what I reference the most often, hats off to Galenorn & Curott.
10. A favorite pagan holiday that you celebrate.
SAMHAIN. I don't celebrate all of the Sabbats, but there's nothing about the Samhain season I don't completely love. I have been blessed in that I have not had anyone close to me pass in several years, so I don't tend to work too closely with that aspect. But the aspect of burning that which is no longer useful and preparing for a new year? I am all over that. Add to that the various aspects that have become more secularized and the overlap with the Halloween season, and I am practically giddy all October. Basically, the entire period between Mabon and Samhain is the ~most wonderful time of the year~, as far as I am concerned.
Yesterday was the photoshoot at StereoVision Photography down in Alexandria. Flissy and I got there at noon, and spent six hours on three sets of shots-- a bright, colorful ATS look, a more subdued ATS look (aka, tribal warrior princesses), and a third, more fusion-y look under amazing moody lighting. There was a light diffuser called a beauty lamp that was like IRL photoshop. I sort of feel like I need them all over my house, it was amazing. Carlo & Elise were so cool and down to earth and easy to work with. I feel really good about the shoot, and I'm sure some fantastic pics are gonna come out of it. They said that pics are going to come out in small batches, so we'll probably get a few at a time. Excited!
Aside from that, having a lazy Sunday at home, on the couch with the hubby, the kitties, and Parks & Recreation. Gotta get up and tidy shortly-- Aster & Tyler are coming over for dinner tonight. Still kinda recovering from a busy busy day yesterday. I feel like I could sleep for another year or so.
