Mike and I had Matthew and Andrea overnight. We opted to go to the mall and see a movie.

Tonight, the part of Tom Ridge will be played by both William Hurt and M. Night Shyamalan. For real. The movie was completely about the Department of Homeland Security, IMHO.

I mean, it was easily predictable (I guessed the "twist" about 20 mins. in), but that didn't make it a terrible movie. It wasn't a *good* movie, but the cinematography was great, and so was the actress who played Ivy. However: it's one of those movies where it thinks it's much cleverer than it actually is, much to the dismay of the actual actors in it. And the creatures? Better rubber suit next time, please.

Also? William Hurt? Either find a new character to play or Never Act Again. I'm tired of the same role over and over. I thought the last straw was you assasinating the character of Duke Leto Atreides, but apparently, I was wrong. Plus? You're about as interesting as cardboard.

Ps- Memo to Brendon Gleeson: it's okay, I still love you.

I said I only had one thought. I lied.

Mmm. Good weekend, generally. I went home because Andrea's 15th birthday party was today, and my parents continue to be freakishly nice. Plus? Yankee Candle Patchouli. Yes.

Anyhow, I have to go to the pet store tomorrow. It's time to move Sasha up to stronger medicine, and now his poor little fin is all clamped and droopy looking. And Sushi won't quit biting himself. Poor sick boys. They're on two medicines as it is. I'm trying to be the best mommy that I can to them, and nothing seems to be helping.

Oh, preaching to the choir about Hurt, dear Christina. I was never a fan of his, but his horrible turn in Dune literally makes me teeth hurt when I watch it. How did this guy become such a big name actor? I mean, even to get top billing on the miniseries??? Blargh.
I also loved the actress who played Ivy. Turns out she's ROn Howard's daughter, too.
If you want another good movie about Homeland Security, check out I, Robot. There's a clever subtext about it, in many ways the thinking that inspired "the Patriot Act."
YOu know, this is a good time to ask - I have a metaphysical question about Buffy the Vampire Slayer...maybe you can answer it, as a Buffy fan?

Shoot it at me. I'll answer it in the AM.

Ok...I'm under the notion that when a person is made a vampire, they lose their soul and that soul is replace by a demon. Ok, got that. but my question is, is the person in question still the same person, or did the identity/psyche leave with the soul, and the demon just inherits the memories/personality like slipping on an old shoe? Nobody I've asked seems to have an answer for it...

The demon takes over and assumes certain traits of the person's former psyche. It's kind of like a replicant virus, I'd suppose. It takes an imprint and then takes over the host body, so the shoe metaphor is essentially correct. Then the soul goes off into the ether. In Angel's case, it was recovered, but they never went into how it was extracted, other than through an Orb of Thessulah.

Ahhh....interesting. Wouldn't Angel's soul have a different personality, having experienced other things for years outside the vampire condition prior to its restoration, or is it that the soul just becomes inert?
thanks for the feedback, btw, I've been wondering this about the vamp thing on Buffy since the start!

I think it's inert, in kind of an ether-stasis. This was never elaborated on, other than the fact that when Angel was re-souled shortly before Buffy skewered him, he had no recollection about things that had gone on while he was soulless. Then later, he can remember every person Angelus killed. It's kind of like multiple personalities with him, and canon always kind of shifted to suit the needs of the story (i.e. Angel didn't remember the beast, but Angelus did-- WTF?)

I'd go with the stasis idea. His soul was most likely put on pause.

Gotcha. Thank you - that makes sense, clears things up for me. :)

Good Grief... I could basically cut and paste your review of The Village and call it my own! Though the Tom Ridge connection never occurred to me. lol Hell of a point you make there! :)

>>You're about as interesting as cardboard.

The same can be said for Tom Ridge, you know.
