WTF, BB&T?

So, last week, my account was $87.

I made a $41 purchase, and checked my online banking. Everything went smoothly, my available balance read $46. Then, I made a $11 purchase that I can think of off the top of my head.

I checked my status today. $87. WTF? The last thing posted is for Friday. The $41 purchase? Before Friday. I called the 1800 number. The same. Errrrrrgh. Even if for some reason, the $41 purchase was cancelled, the $11 should have at least been deducted, which would make my balance not $87. And I haven't gotten any notification of my purchase being cancelled...

God, I hate BB&T sometimes. By my calculations, I should have about $30 (in the thirties range, but I err on the side of caution). I need to start carrying around a checkbook. Bah.

Dude, my bank does that sometimes, too. Sometimes, it'll take up to two weeks to show on my online statement that money has been added or removed.

*stabbity stab stab*

What I don't get is that the money was removed, then re-added. There were no deposits made!

BPAL would send me something if my order was cancelled, right? I paid w/ VISA, and my CCnow thing says everything's okay... but it can be a butt, I hear.

How long does BPAL take to accept payment?

BPAL doesn't charge your card till they pull your order for processing. So, I'd say, it probably won't show up and/or pull from your account for another 2 weeks or so.

Okay, well then I guess the only things I have to worry about posting are the cumulative $11 I made via Paypal. So mentally, I have $30. Makes sense.

*reiterates checkbook idea*

Hehe -- I hate my checkbook, even with my pretty checks. I much prefer to do my banking online because it means I don't have to deal with the stupid pens.

With it returning to an old balance, it seems they had a system error and loaded the backup tapes.

Give it a few days for everything to clear- it's also possible that the Visa hasn't claimed the funds yet, but the hold has expired.

My point- if you think you have $30, you areprobably right.

The only problem is that with things like this it's *sooo* easy to get overdrawn, and the error is basically half theirs, but you get all the charge.

That's where the fine print gets you- the disclaimer about the available balance and actual funds justifies your random screwing.

I said "screw".

that's my bank! I don't use checks or a debit card to avoid the problem of getting an accurate balance reading. I had major problems before bc I would rely on the online thing or the phone service and they were always slow. So if I want money I have to use my lone ATM card now. it keeps me out of trouble. :)

Man, that sucks. A similar problem happened to me with my OneCard---it's basically a college campus card that lets you into your house, and withdraws money from your money account for only laundry, the campus cafe, and printing paper costs. I hadn't used mine in a long time, and I didn't remember putting any money onto my one card. I'd also checked the amount of money which was $2.24 left over from printing for finals hell week. I went to the campus center, and thought I'd use the remaining account for a cup of coffee. The girl ran my card through, and said I had twenty three dollars left.

WTF? I'd just checked the account balance earlier which said $2.24, and now I have over twenty bucks on that card? I thought it was a one-time fluke, so I decided to test my OneCard later by paying for a salad. The girl once again said that I had seventeen bucks left after running my OneCard. It looks like I somehow lucked onto an extra twenty bucks that I thought I didn't have. It's entirely probable that last semester I put a twenty onto that card and completely forgot about it. I just have no memory of doing that.

Remember what they did to me, good Christina, just a few short weeks ago. Saving up the debt for an insane length of time and then nuking me with it all at once.

BANKS ARE EVIL.

Seriously.

Ah, yes. Good ole BB&T. The bank that charged me NSF fees for 2 charges that hadn't even reached them yet, despite the fact that I put the money in in time. Buy something and the money is spoken for immediately; deposit money and it doesn't count until midnight, or possibly the next day. They drove me crazy while I was on vacation, my available balance yo-yoing up and down for 2 weeks.

I hate banks! I'd trust what you think you have rather than what they say. Always assume you have less; it's slightly safer that way.

Sometimes what happens is... banks don't update their website right away till the purchase is confirmed... definitely do not rely on the online banking page as your checkbook register. My bank, for instance, has lots of "pending debits" which have yet to affect the account balance... so there've been a few times I thought I had more money than I really did.

Not good.

BB&T has done that to me. They like to fuck over college students especially, because small businesses are the most important thing to them. What they don't realize is that a lot of small business owners of the future are probably currently in college. I will never forget BB&T and how assholish they are. If I ever own a small business, I am going to send them a middle finger drawing on company letterhead. Assholes.

I'm on their list anyway. I wrote articles about them in the Phoenix before. Apparently someone there read the paper (hell, I'm surprised anyone read it back in the day!) and got all testy because I was clearly implying that they were the evil bank in question, though I used no names. Evil, pure fucking evil.
