Oct. 26th, 2004 11:38 amWhat does the Samhain/All Hallows Eve mean to you?
For me, it's the symbolic death of the God, the time of his journey into the underworld. It's a time to face, celebrate, and commemorate death, because it is a necessary part of life and the ultimate unknown.
Do you do anything special to celebrate or commemorate this sabbat?
For me it's a time of meditation. Sure, I love all of the Halloween-y stuff that comes along with it, and I carve pumpkins and watch horror movies and eat chocolate all in due time. But on Samhain, or the closest I can get to it, I like to spend some time quietly by myself and think about the theme of death and rebirth. I do runecasts as well, and light candles for people who have passed on, if there is someone special I wish to think about. Also, its a time for me to let go of bad habits and thought patterns, so I take time to let all of the useless "spiritual clutter" go.
What does the coming Winter mean to you in terms of spirituality?
Winter break, once the hecticness of finals is over, always gives me time to focus on spiritual things. Now that the prototype is done, I will be working on my final correspondance book that will serve me for as long as I see fit, and I'll be catching up on my reading. It's always a time of introspection and development of ideas. I huddle up under blankets with tea and lose myself in books for a few weeks while the world around me is still.

Date: 2004-10-26 09:08 am (UTC)I know it's late, but do you want to try and get some ppl together for a Samhain circle / discussion / get-to-know-you-in-person event? I know of a few solitaries that might be interested in doing something like this...nothing fancy or such. Enlightened discussion, perhaps a meditation, then socializing?
I'd be happy to host.
