Weekend Report
Sep. 29th, 2008 10:54 amHappy birthday,
gsh!
Saturday proved very restful. I had tomato soup with brie in it (no chewing = rest time for my jaw). I caught up on tv and watched movies and worked on the Halloween update. I made a Werewolf tooth necklace, a funny skeleton, a seer's stone choker, a neat cluster bracelet, and earrings I am terribly tempted to keep for myself. I have a few more pieces yet to complete; hopefully by the weekend, I'll have a mini-update up of about 20 items or so.
Sunday, the boy & I got up early to help
17flyingfish move into her new apartment across from Patterson Park. There was much lifting. From there, it was off to the Crafty Bastards Art Fair in DC, where I met the lady behind The Candy Thief headbands, Jason sniffed a lot of soap (seriously, he loves smelly stuff) and bought some robot tee shirts, and I caved and bought earrings that featured little tiny pumpkin pie slices from Inedible Jewelry. The story behind the earrings is this: two weeks ago, J and I were curled up on the couch watching tv and eating our birthday "cake"-- chocolate covered strawberries. The grocery was out of whipped cream, so we got Cool Whip. Which is okay, but it tastes a little funny to me. I pop quizzed Jason-- what is the one food it is acceptable to eat Cool Whip on instead of whipped cream? He thought about it for about three seconds, then answered authoritatively: "Pumpkin pie." As far as I'm concerned, that's it. Nothing more to talk about, let's just get frakkin' married already. It's not like the topic hadn't been bandied about in a slightly more serious manner lately... we've pretty much decided it's gonna happen; it's just a matter of when. When we have the money, I guess. So I bought the pumpkin pie earrings as a sort of sweet little in-joke between the two of us.
After Crafty Bastards, we had dinner with Kevin, Liaa, and some other friends at Rumba in Adam's Morgan. Mmm, shrimp, filet mignon, and calamari. From there, it was off to Tribal Cafe, and lawd, I coulda choked when Suhaila Salimpour walked in the door. The performances were great. Olivia (of Zafira) was stunning ("I felt like I was in a gypsy tent," quoth the boy) with her ridiculous flexibility and grace. Asharah danced the best I have ever seen her-- fusing an unusually romantic style with some of her trademark ticking and so much poise. Belladonna now has to share space with her for Jason's "favorite bellydance crush." And I got to hang out with
tamnonlinear-- that's always cool.
So, that was le weekend. Gotta plan the next few weekends. I need to make Jenny time, Aster time, and Yancy's going away and I want to do Romka's sword workshop if I can rustle up the time and money... and then FaerieCon... and then Medieval Baebes... October is very busy for me.
